Phaetus Rapido X is a third-generation flagship hotend designed for ultra-high-speed and high-temperature FDM printing. It combines the proprietary Liber™ High-Flow module, a 120 W heater, replaceable PT1000 temperature sensor, removable M6 nozzle and reinforced construction for engineering-grade materials. Rapido X is designed for systems where high volumetric flow, rapid filament melting, stable temperature control and the ability to print materials at extrusion temperatures up to 350 °C are critical.
Key Benefits
Liber™ High-Flow
The proprietary Liber™ module optimizes the melt-channel geometry and increases the heat-transfer area. According to Phaetus, Rapido X can achieve a maximum volumetric flow rate exceeding 100 mm³/s.
EndCoat® II
The hotend comes standard with components featuring EndCoat® II, developed for increased resistance to abrasive wear when printing engineering-grade and composite filaments.
Up to 350 °C
The 120 W ceramic heater and replaceable PT1000 sensor support high-temperature materials including PA, PC, PEI and PEEK.
Next-Generation Performance
100+ mm³/s
Maximum Flow Rate
Maximum volumetric flow rate claimed in Phaetus testing.
65 mm³/s
Stable Flow Rate
Stable extrusion performance reported by the manufacturer under its test configuration.
1300 mm/s
Maximum Printing Speed
Maximum printing speed achieved by Phaetus on its own test platform.
Important: Speed and Flow Rate Figures
The maximum figures of 1300 mm/s and 100 mm³/s were achieved on the Phaetus test platform. The test used PLA+, a temperature of 230 °C, acceleration of 15,000 mm/s², a 0.2 mm layer height, 0.7 mm line width and Vase Mode. Actual performance depends on the printer, material, nozzle, temperature and print settings.
Liber™ High-Flow Module
Instead of a conventional straight melt channel, the Liber™ module uses a more complex geometry with an optimized melting zone. It increases the contact area between the filament and the heated surface, improving heat transfer into the material. According to Phaetus internal calculations, this design increases heat-transfer efficiency by up to 117% compared with a conventional straight channel.
Faster Melting
Improved heat-transfer efficiency allows the filament to be heated more rapidly throughout its cross-section before reaching the nozzle outlet.
Fewer Flow Limitations
High thermal performance helps maintain a large volumetric flow rate without a sharp drop in melt temperature.
Better Quality at High Speed
Consistent melting helps reduce under-extrusion while maintaining surface quality, bridging performance and retraction behavior during high-speed printing.
Cooling and Anti-Clogging Design
Rapido X features an upgraded cooling system with double the heat-dissipation surface area. The heatsink and heatbreak geometry are designed to rapidly remove heat from the cold zone of the hotend and reduce heat creep — premature filament softening above the melt zone that can lead to clogging.
EndCoat® II and Abrasive Materials
For Rapido X, Phaetus uses the second generation of its wear-resistant EndCoat® II coating. It is designed for extended use with engineering-grade and composite filaments containing abrasive fillers. In Phaetus internal PA-CF test, the EndCoat® nozzle processed approximately three times more material before reaching the specified wear level than a hardened steel nozzle.
For Highly Abrasive Materials
Rapido X uses a standard M6 interface, allowing the nozzle to be changed according to the application. For intensive printing with highly filled CF/GF composites, highly wear-resistant compatible nozzles, including SiC options, are recommended.
Universal DIY Platform
Removable M6 Nozzle
The standard M6 threaded interface supports a wide range of compatible nozzles and allows the hotend configuration to be changed quickly.
8 Mounting Holes
The top section features 4×M3 + 4×M2.5 mounting holes, allowing users to create custom adapters and integrate Rapido X into a wide range of DIY systems.
M6 Ecosystem
The design targets the broader DIY ecosystem and compatibility with adapters and mounting systems for popular configurations, including Rapido, neXt G, E3D V6, Prusa MK3S and Bowden setups.
Reinforced Construction
The internal structure of Rapido X is designed to withstand the mechanical loads associated with high-speed printing. Phaetus uses a reinforced anti-twist system with titanium alloy components to reduce the risk of hotend deformation during accidental nozzle collisions with the print or build platform. The manufacturer claims torque resistance of up to 50 N·m.
High-Temperature Printing
The replaceable PT1000 sensor and powerful 120 W ceramic heater provide rapid heating and stable high-temperature operation. The configuration is designed for printing at temperatures up to 350 °C, enabling the use of not only standard PLA, TPU, PETG, ABS and ASA, but also PA, PC, reinforced PA-CF/GF, PEI and PEEK, provided that the other printer components also meet the requirements of the specific material.
