LW‑ASA — Ultralight, Impact-Resistant, and Weather-Resistant Filaments
LW‑ASA or ASA‑AERO are innovative ASA-based filaments with an active foaming structure. They combine lightness, strength, and resistance to external conditions, providing a high-tech solution for models where weight and durability are critical. The material has the ability to increase in volume by up to 3 times given the optimal settings, while maintaining UV resistance and thermal stability, making it ideal for RC models, drones, wind turbines, and other semi-technical objects.
Features of LW-ASA Material
- Density and Lightness. Depending on the printing temperature, LW-ASA can decrease its density, significantly reducing the product's weight without complex changes to the model design.
- Strength and Impact Resistance. Despite the porous structure, parts remain strong enough for operation under moderate mechanical loads. Foamed ASA filament absorbs shocks well, which is especially valuable for aircraft models.
- UV and Weather Resistance. ASA‑AERO retains its properties during prolonged exposure to sunlight, rain, wind, and temperature fluctuations. Printed parts do not fade in the sun and do not deform under moisture or thermal changes.
- Heat Resistance. Products withstand up to 100°C without deformation, allowing their use for both outdoor and technical applications.
- Matte Texture. The finish and uniform surface structure make parts visually attractive without the need for additional processing.
These properties make ASA-AERO a universal solution for tasks where a combination of low weight, endurance, and stability against external factors is important.
How to Print with ASA-AERO?
Foamed ASA plastic requires a special approach to printing and the correct selection of settings. Parameters should be chosen individually for each task, but there are basic recommendations to follow if you are working with the material for the first time: the extruder temperature should be 230–270°C — the higher the temperature, the stronger the foaming. The printer plate should be heated to 80–100°C to ensure good adhesion and avoid warping.
A recommended printing speed of 40–60 mm/s will help achieve uniform porosity. Cooling should be kept minimal or turned off completely so as not to interfere with the uniform foaming of the material. An interesting feature: with the flow set to 50%, you can obtain a part half the weight, making the material exceptionally useful for weight-sensitive projects.
